Connective tissue supports and connects tissues in the body. In everyday language, connective tissue weakness describes reduced firmness or elasticity. The term may refer to different changes, such as reduced skin firmness or a tendency to develop stretch marks; it is not a single diagnosis.

Inherited factors, age, hormonal influences and weight changes may play a part. A balanced diet and exercise support general health but do not reliably remove substantial excess skin. New or unusually pronounced changes should be medically assessed.

In aesthetic treatment, tissue quality affects the result that may be achieved and how it develops over time. Tightening tissue or changing volume does not stop the natural ageing process.
