A body lift involves surgical tightening of larger areas of the body, often after substantial weight loss. The areas included depend on the findings. A lower body lift may combine the abdomen, flanks and buttocks, for example; a breast or arm lift would be a separate or additional procedure.
The incision may extend around the trunk like a belt, leaving correspondingly long scars. The extent of surgery and possible combinations are planned with the person's health, tissues and the strain of the operation in mind.
Extensive surgery may carry greater risks and require a longer recovery. Possible complications include wound healing problems, infection, fluid collections and blood clots. In some cases, it makes sense to divide treatment between several operations.
