A breast lift, also called mastopexy, reshapes a drooping breast. Excess skin is removed and the existing tissue is reshaped. The nipple and areola may be raised where needed. A lift changes shape without necessarily adding a substantial amount of volume.

The incision pattern depends on excess skin, breast size and nipple position. Scars may run around the areola, vertically below it and, additionally, along the crease beneath the breast. If more volume is also wanted, an implant or, in selected cases, fat transfer can be discussed.

Risks include wound healing problems, changes in blood supply and sensation, and asymmetry. The ability to breastfeed may also be affected. Pregnancy, weight fluctuations and ageing can change the breasts again later.
