Inframammary means below the breast. In breast surgery, an inframammary approach involves an incision in the fold beneath the breast, through which an implant can be inserted, for example.

This approach can give a direct view of the implant pocket. Its suitability depends on breast shape, the implant and surgical planning. Other approaches, such as around the areola or through the armpit, have their own advantages and disadvantages.

The scar is planned to fit the fold as closely as possible, but it remains present. A particular name for a suture or incision technique does not guarantee an invisible result. Skin tension, individual healing and aftercare influence its eventual appearance.
