Injection lipolysis involves injecting an active substance into a limited fat deposit to damage fat cells and initiate their breakdown. It is commonly known as fat-dissolving injections. Not every product is intended for every part of the body.

At most, the method is intended to change a localised contour; it is not suitable for general weight loss. It also cannot reliably correct excess skin. Whether treatment is appropriate depends on fat distribution, the tissues and the medical assessment.

Swelling, pain, bruising and inflammation can occur. Poor distribution or incorrect application may damage tissues and nearby structures. Benefits, alternatives and product-specific risks must be explained before treatment.
