Eyelid surgery can address excess skin or certain changes in the shape of the upper or lower eyelid. The two areas differ anatomically and need separate planning. Drooping eyebrows or a problem with the muscle that raises the eyelid are assessed separately.

On the upper eyelid, targeted skin removal may be sufficient; removing additional muscle or fat is not automatically necessary. On the lower eyelid, options may include fat repositioning, adjustment of the skin or support for the eyelid, depending on the findings.

Risks include swelling, bruising, dry eyes, asymmetry and changes in eyelid position. Rare, serious complications can affect vision. The location of scars, the expected course of recovery and aftercare are explained beforehand.
