The cheekbone is also called the zygomatic bone. There is one on each side of the face, forming part of the eye socket. Together with skin, muscles and fat, it influences the visible contour of the cheek.
Loss of volume in the midface may be treated in different ways, depending on its cause. Fillers or transferred fat change the soft tissues overlying the bone. A narrow or tired-looking face does not always reflect a lack of volume.
Planning considers the whole face and the possible risks of injection. Duration of effect, tissue integration and later breakdown vary between individuals. Swelling, asymmetry, infection and vascular complications are also possible.
