Breast implants are medical devices used to change or restore breast volume and shape. They differ in their filling, shell, surface, size and profile, among other features. Silicone gel-filled implants are commonly used. Round and anatomically shaped models may offer different characteristics depending on the starting point.

The choice is based on breast width, skin quality, tissue coverage and the desired change. The eventual appearance also depends on implant position and the existing breast. Implant size alone determines neither the result nor a particular bra size.

Implants are not devices that remain unchanged for life. Possible problems include capsular contracture, rupture, displacement and other implant-related conditions. Further examinations or operations may be needed. The model, surface and serial number should be documented on the implant card.
