How does a hyaluronic acid filler change under the eyes, and what should be considered if the result is unwanted? This article explains the difference between an early change in contour, subsequent developments and gradual breakdown.
Mc Aesthetics values a natural-looking eye area that suits your personal expression. Your own eye shape and facial expressions should guide the aesthetic approach, rather than exaggerated forms or changing social media trends.

A change in contour may be visible immediately after the injection. Swelling and bruising can alter this first impression, however. A fixed period of 14 days describes neither the final result nor the breakdown of the filler for everyone. The timing of follow-up is agreed individually.
Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume to soft tissue. Depending on the findings, they may change a cheek contour or nasolabial fold, for example. Treatment of the tear trough is an option only for suitable hollows. Pigmentation, swelling or protruding fat do not automatically disappear as a result.
What side effects can hyaluronic acid cause?
Possible effects include pain, bruising, swelling, infection, lumps and irregular contours. Filler close to the surface may show through with a bluish hue, and swelling may persist. Rare vascular complications can damage tissue or vision.
Unusually severe pain, marked skin discolouration or visual disturbance requires immediate medical help. The following points can help you prepare for the informed-consent discussion.
- Medicines, particularly blood thinners, must only be changed or stopped in agreement with the treating doctor and, where appropriate, the doctor who prescribed them.
- Look for a doctor with specialist qualifications and experience appropriate to the proposed procedure.
- Find out about the facility and its aftercare.
- Read accounts on Jameda as personal experiences, not as a guarantee of results.
- Use our social media channels for additional insight, not for self-diagnosis.
- Ask about the limitations, alternatives and risks of filler treatment around the eyes.
- Take concerns seriously and decide without time pressure.
The visible effect of a filler changes over time. The product, treatment area and individual factors influence how long it lasts. A diminishing effect does not necessarily mean that all of the material has already broken down. Persistent swelling or an unwanted contour should be examined before further injections or dissolving the filler are considered.
Hyaluronidase is an option for certain hyaluronic acid fillers, but it has risks of its own and does not guarantee a complete return to the original state. For comparison, the article on the nasolabial fold explains a different treatment area.
Interpreting experiences of filler breakdown
Personal experiences may offer insight into expectations and healing. They cannot reliably predict your own result. Your clinical findings, an explanation from the doctor and coordinated aftercare are what matter when making a decision.
Dark circles: consultation and travel
A personal consultation can be prepared even if you are travelling from further away. Our locations overview lists the current Mc Aesthetics cities. Before travelling, agree the precise location, your availability and any documents needed with us.
If treatment follows, allow for recovery time, a possible companion and accessible aftercare. A place name alone says nothing about which procedure is suitable for you.
Which hyaluronic acid filler is suitable for the tear trough?
Dark circles and under-eye bags can have different causes. A filler suits only selected volume deficits; it does not automatically remove pigmentation, visible blood vessels or bulging fat.
Adding volume may be unsuitable if you are prone to swelling. Choosing a product therefore does not replace investigating the cause. The changes that may be possible and the risks are discussed personally before treatment.
