Hyaluronic acid may be an option for certain hollows beneath the eyes. This article explains suitability, the treatment process and its limitations. Our locations overview and personal contact options are available to help you plan.

Mc Aesthetics values a natural-looking eye area that suits your personal expression. Your own eye shape and facial expressions should guide the aesthetic approach, rather than exaggerated forms or changing social media trends.

Treating dark circles with hyaluronic acid

Treatment for dark circles depends on their cause. Shadows may form along a deep tear trough; pigmentation, thin skin and swelling need to be distinguished from this. Sleep and stress affect appearance in some people, but do not explain every change. Health concerns are also part of the assessment.

A hyaluronic acid filler can soften selected hollows and make a shadow less noticeable. It does not automatically remove dark skin pigment or protruding fat. A rapidly visible contour change must also be distinguished from the later result. Further images and videos are available on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

Dark-circle treatment | The procedure

The skin around the eyes is thin and sensitive, and the vascular anatomy also requires particular care. The treating doctor should be qualified in the procedure and able to assess the area confidently. Depending on the findings and product, a needle or cannula may be used.

No particular technique makes treatment risk-free. Pain, swelling, bruising and uneven contours are possible. Rare vascular complications can lead to tissue damage or visual disturbance. Unusually severe pain, marked skin discolouration or altered vision requires immediate medical help.

What causes dark circles?

Dark shadows can arise from pigmentation, visible vessels, thin skin or a hollow. Swelling and protruding fat further alter the contour. Lack of sleep and stress may play a part, but are not a universal explanation for under-eye bags.

Hyaluronic acid for a deep tear trough A suitable filler adds volume to soft tissue. This can change the transition between lower eyelid and cheek.

Pigmented skin, bulging fat and swelling need a separate assessment; adding volume would be unsuitable for some findings. Before a decision, the discussion therefore covers not only possible benefits but also the following points:

  • The duration depends on the examination, planning and individual treatment requirements.
  • Appropriate anaesthesia can reduce discomfort. Pain, tenderness and swelling are still possible.
  • Recovery after treatment varies from person to person. Swelling, bruising, tenderness or other symptoms may temporarily affect everyday life. An immediate return to unrestricted activity cannot be promised. Preparation, recovery, follow-up appointments and possible warning signs are discussed beforehand. Seek medical advice if symptoms are unexpected or become worse.
  • Outpatient treatment and recovery
  • An early change should be distinguished from the later result. Swelling and the subsequent course may affect the initial appearance.
  • Different findings around the eyes:
  • Brown under-eye circles
  • Under-eye bags
  • Deep under-eye hollows
  • Tear troughs
  • Dark circles
  • Persistent dark circles

A hyaluronic acid filler can alter certain volume deficits around the eyes. It does not automatically tighten loose skin or reliably remove all fine lines. This sensitive area requires a detailed examination and information about its particular risks.

The treatment process for dark circles

During the medical consultation, the specific findings around the eyes are examined: pigmentation, swelling and volume deficits require different approaches. Suitability for filler injections is decided after examination.

The product, possible anaesthesia, limitations and risks are explained. Hyaluronic acid treatment does not remove every type of dark circle or bag. Timing and aftercare are agreed once you have made a well-informed decision.

Home remedies and their limits

For dark shadows beneath the eyes, a useful approach depends on the cause. Skincare, cooling or makeup may partly and temporarily affect appearance, but do not address every volume deficit, pigmentation change or swelling. Hyaluronic acid filler is not a universal alternative to home remedies.

It is an option only with suitable anatomy and has risks of its own. Its effect is temporary; duration and possible repeat treatment are assessed according to progress. New or persistent changes may need medical investigation.

Possible contributing factors to discuss:

  • Diet and deficiencies confirmed by a doctor where there is reason to suspect them
  • Family traits and individual skin and tissue structure
  • Excessive exposure of the skin to UV radiation
  • Health symptoms, skin changes or allergies
  • Insufficient sleep

Who may be suitable for dark-circle treatment?

Filler treatment is an option only for selected volume deficits and suitable anatomy. If there is a marked tendency to swell, excess skin, protruding fat or predominantly pigmentation, other steps may be more appropriate.

A medical examination determines whether an injection, another treatment or initially no aesthetic intervention is recommended. Discuss your expectations and the aftercare options as well.

How can dark circles be improved?

Makeup or concealer can temporarily camouflage dark areas. Whether medical treatment is worthwhile depends on the cause. A hyaluronic acid filler can change the contour of suitable hollows, but is not a universal solution for pigmentation or bags.

A set period of 6–8 months without dark circles cannot be promised either. Progress, duration and possible next steps are assessed individually.
