Which product is suitable for the under-eye area?
Choosing a product starts with identifying the cause of your dark circles. A hollow tear trough, pigmentation, swelling and protruding fat can all create a tired appearance, but they call for different considerations. Hyaluronic acid filler is an option only when the findings support its use. Your own proportions, eye shape and facial expression guide the approach.

Open the full visual guideJuvéderm and Restylane are product families containing different formulations. A brand name alone does not establish suitability for the thin skin beneath the eye. Ask which specific product is proposed, which properties support that choice and what its limitations are. Confirm the products currently used during your consultation with the doctor responsible.
When can changes in the under-eye area be assessed?
A change in contour may be visible soon after an injection. However, swelling, bruising and the tissue's response affect the initial appearance. Looking in the mirror immediately after the appointment does not reliably show the later result. A follow-up is arranged according to the product and your recovery.
Even after two weeks, symptoms or swelling may still affect the assessment. Discuss when another examination would be appropriate and what to do if changes persist. Neither a particular result nor personal satisfaction can be guaranteed.
What can facial fillers do?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can address certain volume deficits and influence contours. Depending on the findings, this may involve areas such as the cheeks or nasolabial folds. Treating a tear trough requires a separate examination. Non-surgical nose reshaping also has specific requirements and vascular risks. Suitability for one area does not imply a recommendation for further procedures.
Botulinum toxin is used for different concerns from filler, such as selected expression lines. Crow's feet, lower-eyelid lines and a wish to lift the eyelids should not be treated as a single concern. Whether different procedures can sensibly be combined requires a separate explanation and assessment.
Preparing for a consultation and travel
Mc Aesthetics also welcomes enquiries from outside Cologne. Confirm the actual consultation venue and appointment before planning a journey. Our location directory can help you find your way. Consider whether you may need someone to accompany you, recovery time and accessible aftercare. A regional article does not automatically indicate a treatment venue in the town it names.
Eight points to help you make an informed decision
- List all medication, particularly blood thinners. Change or stop prescribed treatment only after discussing it with a doctor.
- Ask about medical qualifications appropriate to the procedure and experience in treating the under-eye area.
- Find out about examination, hygiene, informed consent and aftercare at the proposed treatment venue.
- Establish who will perform the injection and how medical assistance is arranged if a complication occurs.
- Reviews on platforms such as Jameda reflect personal experiences; they do not establish suitability for your individual findings.
- Consider lighting, camera angle and when the image was taken when viewing social media content.
- Prepare questions using our information on hyaluronic acid treatment for dark circles.
- Take your own unease seriously. You are entitled to ask questions, take time to think or decide against a procedure.
Understanding risks and duration realistically
Possible risks include pain, swelling, bruising, irregularities and infection. Serious complications involving blood vessels can occur in rare cases. Unusually severe pain or changes in vision during or after an injection require immediate medical attention. Preparation and appropriate clinical practice can reduce risks but cannot eliminate them.
How long a change remains visible depends on the specific product, the area treated and individual factors. The effect changes over time; a single timeframe does not apply to everyone. Before a further injection, the remaining effect, findings and your wishes are reassessed.
