A woman in light activewear with natural body proportions

Body definition starts by asking what actually influences the contour you want to change. Subcutaneous fat, skin and existing muscles require different considerations. Our reference point is a natural silhouette that suits the individual, whether a woman or a man.

Research, explained

A relevant original study, its measurements and its limits. The findings describe studied groups, not your personal outcome.

This research concerns liposuction and targeted body definition. It did not test an individually combined Haute Couture concept as a complete package.

Three reported complications compared

The 2023 review combines 21 papers on high-definition liposuction involving 6,964 patients.

Reported proportion in percent (%)

Reported proportion in percent (%). Temporary pigmentation: 3.8; Seroma (fluid collection): 3.3; Temporary tissue fibrosis: 2.7

Original chart of selected study values. Scale: 0–5%.

How to read this chart Only three events are shown. This is not the full risk profile or a prediction of individual risk. Reporting varied between studies.

Data & study design

Willet et al. reported 260 pigmentation events, 231 seromas and 185 temporary tissue fibroses. Percentages are reproduced as reported. These are not Mc Aesthetics treatment data.

Which tissue determines the contour?

First identify the area and the change you have in mind: a softer transition at the waist, less lower abdominal volume or more visible abdominal lines. Examination then establishes the contribution of fat, skin and the abdominal wall. This matters more than the name of a device.

Liposuction, definition or skin removal?

Abdominal liposuction can reduce local subcutaneous fat. Six-pack surgery focuses on existing muscle contours. Substantial excess skin needs a separate assessment, including consideration of an abdominoplasty. These procedures address different issues and are not interchangeable.

Planning also means understanding what a procedure cannot achieve. Liposuction does not create additional muscle strength and does not treat general excess weight. The ASPS patient information explains its basic uses and limitations.

Who might be suitable for stronger definition?

Health, skin quality, weight history, previous procedures and realistic expectations belong in the medical assessment. A questionnaire or photograph alone cannot establish suitability. Choosing to postpone or decline surgery should also be part of this conversation.

A 2026 systematic review of 17 studies found varying selection criteria for high-definition liposuction and no agreed ideal candidate. Comparability between the studies was limited. Guidi et al..

Consider the whole silhouette

Natural contours need appropriate transitions. The abdomen and flanks should therefore be assessed together, even if only one area is to be treated. Treating more regions does not automatically offer a better solution. Scope, burden and benefit must each be considered.

What belongs in a concrete treatment plan?

Ask for an explanation of the proposed procedure, alternatives and remaining limitations. The plan should identify the responsible clinician, anaesthesia, aftercare, whom to contact with concerns and how possible revisions would be managed. Is abdominal liposuction dangerous? explores the risks.

Make your own priorities visible

Before your consultation, the sliders can help you explore whether the waist or abdominal contour matters more to you. The examples are orientation aids. You can optionally add photographs using the guide at the next step. For questions about training and visible muscles, see defined abdominal muscles.
